About
The overall idea of Beyond The Wedding is to challenge photographers technically and artistically through monthly challenges and constructive critiques.
Online Audio Critiques
We feel that listening to a critique can communicate much more meaning and understanding than reading a critique. Things can get lost in translation when dealing with script – and let’s face it – it takes a lot longer to type than to record.
The Audio Critique system on Beyond The Wedding allows members to submit and hear critiques about their work and also give critiques to other members with clear communication and intention. The critiques held on Beyond The Wedding will not be anonymous due to the fact that we need to keep the photographer’s information linked to their image.
Local Meetings
We are committed to having local meetings held once a month. At these meetings you will have a chance to critique others work, have your own work critiqued by your peers, and participate in the Monthly Challenges.
Like the Online Audio Critiques, we feel it is important to hear what people have to say about an image. Taking this a step further with the Local Meetings, seeing other wedding photographers in person can help facilitate discussion and help promote a sense of community.
During the meetings, we are looking for constructive critiques – what we (anyone at the meeting that has a comment) like about the photograph and what areas could use improvement. And, if it could use improvement, what could be improved. Basically, you’ll come out with some great honest feedback about your work. The images at local meetings will be posted anonymously to help facilitate more open and honest feed back.
All professional wedding photographers are welcome to attend and bring their own work (no watermarks or identification on the front of the photographs please – this is for critiquing purposes). Also, you’ll get a chance to vote for the month’s Challenge winners.

Beyond the Shoot
The idea behind Beyond the Shoot is literally photographers getting together to practice on a monthly basis. No formal agenda, no formal item any one photographer needs to practice – we figure if someone wants a structured, organized, agenda that there are plenty of great workshops they can attend. Beyond the Shoot is just a way to practice together – share ideas and techniques and push each other to become better photographers.

Monthly Challenges
Every month we issue challenges in four categories to Beyond The Wedding members. The categories for the challenges are “Abstract,” “Specific,” “Technical,” and “Theme.” We encourage Beyond The Wedding members to suggest specific challenges for any of these categories. Also, each month winners are selected locally for each category. The winners’ photographs are featured on the home page of Beyond The Wedding for the next month including credits and a link in the winners post to their websites.
